Recycled T-shirt Shopping Bag

A green, environmentally friendly alternative to disposable plastic shopping bags.

Issue

About one trillion single-use plastic bags are used annually across the globe. That’s nearly 2 million every minute.

Equipment/material:

• Cotton t-shirt
• 3-5 pins
• Pencil
• Plate
• Scissors
• Sewing machine

Steps:

1. Cut and remove the sleeves
2. Position a plate about halfway over the neck opening of the shirt. Trace the plate with your pencil or pen. This will be your cutting line to create the opening for your tote bag. Cut along the traced line with the scissors.
   
3. Turn the T-shirt inside out and pin the bottom of the shirt
4. Sew the bottom of the T-shirt hem closed
