Funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club AI Community Innovation Programme is a 2.5-year hands-on education programme, bringing together participants from schools, communities, and the industry to learn, play and solve real-world problems with artificial intelligence (AI). We will offer a variety of activities, including workshops, seminars and competitions, with the aim of:

You don’t need any prior knowledge and skills, as you will get all the support you need and become a capable AI mentor, step-by-step, through our capacity building workshops. Anyone passionate about learning AI-technologies or developing AI-related expertise can also join.

International Partners

Technovation is a global technology education nonprofit, empowering underserved groups to tackle problems in their communities with cutting-edge technologies, such as AI and coding. Over the years, it has supported more than 130,000 youths, 28,000 mentors and parents across 100+ countries. Since 2018, Technovation has been running the world’s largest AI-education competition, with 18 countries involved and engaging around 10,000 under-resourced 3rd to 8th grade  students and their parents in a 10-week programme.

Founded in 2016 by IIT Kanpur Alumni, STEMpedia is a globally renowned experiential learning platform, strives towards enabling educational institutions to create an ecosystem to foster learning, creativity, and innovation in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Robotics. It helps kids aged 7 and above to understand complex industry-standard AI and robotics concepts in an easy and playful manner through exciting real world application-based DIY projects.

Franky Poon is the Principal of Hong Kong Red Swastika Society Tai Po Secondary School and as the Specialist of Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. Mr. Poon was seconded to EDB to provide support to over 80 local schools on catering for learner diversity and building inclusive ethos and measures. He is invited to be the Speakers in various tertiary education programs and teacher training courses to share experience on supporting students with diverse needs. He is also an author of various book chapters and journals as well as presenter at local and international conferences on how to enhance school’s capacity to cater for student diversity. He is the Project Lead of Jockey Club “Diversity at Schools” Project (2018-2024), which aims to enhance primary and secondary schools’ capacity to cater for learner diversity.

Kevin Pereira is currently the Managing Director for Blu Artificial Intelligence, a consulting firm that specializes in Artificial Intelligence (AI), based in Hong Kong. Kevin has worked on consulting projects and is a major contributor to BLU’s knowledge base of AI applications in various industries. He is passionate about AI’s impact on society, including skillsets and job markets for the future, and also the ethical considerations involved with AI.

To this end, he has collaborated on articles and podcasts, and also spoken at numerous events and panels which have focused on the aforementioned topics. In addition, he has also delivered numerous AI workshops to members of innovation and strategy teams from a myriad of industries in multiple locations around the world.

He is also a part-time lecturer at HKU (University of Hong Kong) and HKUST (The HK University of Science and Technology) along with a number of other schools both in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pac region. His courses focus on Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and their applications in business.

LP Cheung is an experienced AI practitioner. Currently, he is a senior lecturer at Hong Kong Metropolitan University. He is also the founder and general manager at Vinci AI Academy, an AI education company.

As the manager of STEAM Lab of the university, Mr. Cheung developed various workshops, including AI, robotics, and Internet of Things, to promote technology education in secondary schools, and therefore understand the situation and pain point of STEM education. Besides HKMU, Mr. Cheung is also a lecturer at Hong Kong Baptist University, teaching a data science course to master students.

Before joining HKMU, Mr. Cheung was a data scientist at a leading international investment bank – UBS, Bank of China (Hong Kong), and HK01. During his tenure, Mr. Cheung has developed many large-scale machine learning systems, including a news recommendation system serving more than 5 million customers, a credit risk prediction system, and a machine translation system.

Before working as a data scientist, Mr. Cheung was an AI researcher. His research interests include Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, and adaptive learning. Some of the results are published in international conferences and journals.

Clare Liu is a data science Specialist at Crypto.com. She is also a contributing author at several publications including Towards Data Science and KDnuggets. Her new video channel – AI Sensei was launched in March this year delivering innovative and cutting edge AI and Machine Learning knowledge in Hong Kong for everyone.

Prior to joining Crypto.com, Clare was working in DBS innovation and ecosystems team to drive various data-related projects in different teams and her major role was to involve in data mining research projects and bring innovative insights to her teammates.

She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and her research interests include social semiotics, multimodality, business communication, luxury studies in relation to art, space, sustainability, and retail experience.

Prior to CityU, Esterina was the Director of Retail in Asia (part of Bluebell Group) in charge of media brand operations including content selection, curation, edition, and commercial strategy. At Bluebell Group she also took on the role of Public Relations Lead working on internal/external communication and ESG strategy.

Prior to her latest venture, Karin was a core member of an EdTech firm incubated by Cyberport with a focus on ABCD (Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cloud & Big Data). Not only is she actively engaging in the startup community, Karin also spent the last decade in the HR consulting industry offering leadership and soft skills training and serving clients spanning across multinational companies to rising startups. Her core belief in open-minded education and career planning leads her to identify individuals’ unique qualities and help them focus on their strengths with the leverage of the latest technology. Having lived in France and the United States, she is also passionate about connecting people across cultures.

Karin graduated with a bachelor degree in Hotel Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Kosby is the Vice President of Group Strategic & Marketing Communications in DBS Bank (HK), leading a team on corporate branding and digital marketing, he is also part of the team to drive the sustainability agenda across the bank.

Previous working in innovation & technology teams, he supported the bank’s innovation agenda through the fintech acceleration programme (DBS Accelerator), customer journey design, business ecosystem and cultivation of innovation culture internally.

Before joining the bank in 2015, Kosby was an experienced art and motion graphic director in his co-owned brand design studio, and he spent his early career in the media industry specializing in channel branding and programme promotion and received several industry awards.

Kosby holds a Master Degree in Creative Cultural and Entrepreneurship in Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Bachelor Degree in Digital Graphic Communication, School of Communication, Hong Kong Baptist University.

I have published 10 peer-reviewed papers on educational technology and teaching innovation. I led some institutional-wide surveys on the universities and was a principal investigator in some educational projects in higher education and pre-school education.

I am also a professional statistician from Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and the United States. I have solid academic training in mathematics, statistics, research methods, psychology, and information technology.

I was a finance professional who left behind her decent livings and devoted herself to the family when her first daughter was born. Eventually landed myself in my own consultancy firm and also dedicated myself in founding Hong Kong Momtrepreneurs – a non profit organization in Hong Kong supporting moms and families in their entrepreneurial journey. I also appreciate the impacts from social innovations and further pursues my works in promoting UNSDGs.

In my leisure time, I enjoy sipping a glass of wine or coffee with friends and I also contribute as Advisor and Trainer at Junior Chamber International and as Programme Chair in HK Association of Business and Professional Women.

MR. Wally Kwong

Wally is an experienced STEAM Educator and formerly served as the educational lead at Inno Space, an education hub powered by the Hong Kong Productivity Council. He is a doer, agitator and advocate of STEAM education grounded on his beliefs that the future of our society relies on the young generation in which fully engaged and empowered youth can help to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. As an action-driven person, Wally has rolled out a series of virtual STEAM initiatives with local educators and Edu-Tech startups to promote remote learning in local schools during the pandemic, reaching 40,000+ beneficiaries since March 2020.

He is also an enthusiast supporter of entrepreneurship among university students and recent graduates, especially in the field of Edu-Tech, Engineering and Social Innovation. By actively reach out to startups & makers communities, he has engaged 100+ startups and inventors to translate their ideas into industrial designs, prototypes and products so they can turn concepts into reality.

Wally is currently the curriculum lead of the HKFYG Jockey Club Media 21 (M21), a digital skill transformation centre based in Aberdeen.
