Maker Education

Maker Education is an authentic learning approach, which let participants explore real-world problems and projects, engage in meaningful discussions, and construct concepts and relationships. It raises participants’ awareness of the world around them and begins to see themselves as creators who can tinker, hack and improve. Through collaborating with youth, social workers, educators and professionals from different industries to deliver programmes and training, we are committed in tackling the needs of our society.

➜ Skill Training

Maker & Design Thinking Programme
Maker & Design Thinking Programme

We provide maker and design thinking workshops/programmes to meet the needs of different participants. From an one-off workshop to get a taste of building prototypes using maker skills, to programmes that includes 12 – 16 sessions combining maker skills and design thinking, we tailor trainings according to clients’ objectives.

Earlier, we provided a Design Thinking class that consisted of 12 sessions for TWGHs Mr & Mrs Kwong Sik Kwan College, to explore the potential of SEN students. We guided a group of SEN students to design a mobile coffee cart for Coffee Society. Students experienced the essence of design thinking from understanding the users’ needs, to building and revising prototypes using different maker skills, as well as using the coffee cart to serve others.

Train the Trainer

Acquiring design thinking and maker skills can benefit educators to empower students to develop creative confidence in their study and work.

Our combined workshops of design thinking and maker skills enable participants to build an actual prototype using different maker skills such as woodworking, laser cutting, 3D printing and sewing with an user-centric mindset. As a result, the experience can facilitate educators to design learning activities for students to be optimistic, empathetic and active members of society who can contribute to solving the complex challenges.

➜ Makerspace Design

Over the past, we have helped different schools, youth centres and institutions to design and build their own makerspace. It can be tailor-made into different designs according to your needs and the space available.

Jockey Club YouthCreate Series

As a Technical Partner of Maker Track of the Jockey Club YouthCreate Series, we empowered several hundred teachers, social workers, youth workers and several thousand young people on maker skills and mindsets. In collaboration with social workers, we transformed rooms in 6 youth centres into mini maker-spaces, in which the low-income youth can conduct various maker projects.

We know that to train students and get them prepared for challenges in the future, educators need support and resources on different approaches of teaching. To facilitate the teaching experience, we interviewed several teachers to learn more about their needs and published a guidebook about Design Thinking and Interactive Game. From team building, building empathy and idea brainstorming, it features activities to develop students’ creativity and human-centered mindset, empowering them to explore possibilities in the process of problem-solving.
