Hi! I’m Ivan, this is my internship experience at MakerBay

Day one outline:

FRC

The first robotics competition is a stem related competition that involve the participate using their knowledge in the stem to create a robot that does certain tasks. This year’s theme for the FRC is about infinite recharge, on my first day here in maker bay I started by doing some basic research surrounding the FRC. By learning more about this competition, I now have a better idea about the layout of this competition. As the FRC robot designs are mainly centered around the roboRIO which is basically the brain of the robot, I also had to do some research about such open-source materials to have a better idea. After looking at some of the past competitions, I learned about how the teams approaches to solve the different issue and complete the tasks proposed.

Coming up with designs

I started the prototyping process by listing out all the possible tasks that the robot might have to complete this year. After looking at the trailer for this year, I can also predict some of the possibilities. I came up with three ideas on how to solve some of the tasks proposed. In the following two weeks, I will continue to work on new ideas to solve the different task and eventually get started on making some of the actual prototypes.

Reflection:

I really enjoyed my work experience today, I think having experiences like this is really helpful to learn new things but to also have more experience in the area of robotics. MakerBay is a really good community with lots and lots of opportunities like this and I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the two week working as an intern here.
