A Good Online Resource for Maker Education – raspberrypi.org

RaspberryPi.org is a UK based technology company which tries to help children learn the ways around computers and programming by selling cheap computers of a high quality. This online resource allows children to either purchase a kit or download a software replicating the kit, which is a much smaller model of a computer. This helps teach children how to build a computer and the basics of computer science.

RaspberryPi Kit

One benefit of RasperryPi is that it is a cheap alternative for children to learn about computers, with the kits costing around £25 (250hkd), and many others costing much more. However, during a series of tests, it was found that the RaspberryPi kits were unfortunately vulnerable to flashing lights, and were in some cases severely damaged by them. Apart from this, there seems to be no other problems with this resource.

In terms of who should be using RaspberryPi, it was originally created for children in schools, and also for people trying to learn about computer science in developing countries. This is beneficial as it helps to expose computer science to many more people and allow them to learn the subject.
