Dr. Allen To (Manager, Ocean Sustainability, WWF-HKDr) Allen To joined WWF in 2009 and is now Manager, Oceans Sustainability. His work covers sustainable seafood, shark fin and Ecological Footprint. He holds a PhD on grouper biology and fishery. He is Regional Coordinator of IUCN Grouper & Wrasse Specialist Group and Thematic Editor (Pisces) of World Register of Marine Species. He is also an expert on Hong Kong reef fishes. | |
Dr. Apple Chiu (Lecturer, CUHKDr) Apple Chui is a lecturer in the School of Life Sciences, CUHK. She received undergraduate training in biology from HKUST, master and doctoral training in environmental science and biology from CUHK. She is an experienced PADI Rescue diver who has logged more than 800 dives in Hong Kong and other parts of the world. Since 2008, Apple has been studying corals in Hong Kong. Her research interests included reproductive and larval ecology of corals, coral recruitment dynamics, population and community ecology of coral reefs and restoration of corals using coral sexual reproduction. | |
Dr. David Baker(Assistant Professor, Swire Institute of Marine ScienceAssistant Professor, School of Biological Sciences University of Hong Kong) Dr. David Baker is an ecologist and an assistant professor at the Swire Institute of Marine Science at the University of Hong Kong where he leads an international team of scientists to study, cultivate and restore coral reefs. Dave received his PhD from Cornell University, his MS in Biology at American University in Washington DC, and his BA at St. Mary’s College in Maryland. | |
Moderator: Laurel Chor (Producer, VICE News Tonight) Laurel Chor is an award-winning journalist and National Geographic Young Explorer. She is currently an international producer for VICE News Tonight on HBO. She has covered the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh, the 2015 Nepal earthquake disaster, and the 2014 Hong Kong Umbrella Movement protests. She is also the founder of the HK Explorers Initiative, a founding member of the HK Chapter of the Explorers Club, and the ambassador for the Jane Goodall Institute HK. |
