Nerdy Derby Workshop

We had a lot of fun making this Nerdy Derby with Maker Jungle (They made this amazing challenging track!) in PMQ before Christmas!

The kids were designing a cardboard racing car base on the track, using only the materials provided on the table. Everyone was trying to figure out how to prevent the car from falling. What can they do to make it faster and how not to get stuck in the middle? For optimum performance can be affected by the weight, shape and size of the car, even down to the minute details were considered.

After finishing the car, we started of testing them at the bottom of the track. Everything seems smooth… At the moment

Let’s take it to another level.  This time, we have some small hitches.

After clearing the first two stages, we head off to challenge the highest peak! Everyone will fail every now and then, but they will fine-tune it and try again.

The aim of this activity is to have kids learn problem-solving from trial by error, therefore they have to find out the problem and think of a solution. If the car is not running smoothly, they will have to adjust the tightness of the wheels. If the car is leaning to the side, they have to calibrate the weight on the car, until the car successfully finishes the whole track.

We will have different workshop occasionally, stay tuned and have fun in making!
