AI Innovation in Education
MakerBay leads AI education innovation through content development and groundbreaking projects. Our flagship initiatives include the AI Coralbot—a robot designed to tackle coral documentation challenges—and the Jockey Club AI Community Innovation program, which has trained over a thousand youth, parents, and educators in AI literacy. We’re committed to exploring innovative ways to integrate AI into education and developing strategies to equip our youth and educators with essential AI literacy skills. Artificial Intelligence is transforming education by enhancing learning experiences, supporting educators, and preparing students for a rapidly evolving world. We explore AI’s intersection with education through competency frameworks, practical applications, foundational knowledge, and career readiness.
AI Competency Framework from UNESCO
UNESCO’s AI Competency Framework provides a global standard for integrating AI into education responsibly and effectively. It emphasizes skills and knowledge that enable individuals to:
Understand AI’s ethical implications
and societal impact.
Leverage AI tools to enhance learning and teaching.
Foster critical thinking about
AI’s role in education systems.
This framework serves as a guide for students, educators, and policymakers to ensure AI is used inclusively and equitably, preparing learners for a future shaped by technology. Based on this framework, Makerbay put AI literacy as a core of our program:

Knowledge of AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is like teaching computers to think and learn a little like humans, helping them solve problems, recognize patterns, or make decisions. For students, understanding AI means discovering how apps like YouTube suggest videos or how virtual assistants like Siri understand your voice. Teachers can use this knowledge to explain real-world tech in class, making lessons more relevant. Parents benefit by seeing how AI shapes their child’s world, from smart toys to learning apps. Knowing AI basics—such as how it uses data to “learn”—empowers everyone to navigate a tech-driven future confidently, whether it’s spotting AI in daily life or discussing its ethical use.
STEM training in School
Our STEM training program in schools focuses on teaching students about AI fundamentals and its practical applications for addressing social and environmental challenges. Students gain a basic understanding of AI through hands-on activities and explore various AI applications to grasp core concepts. The program emphasizes the importance of AI ethics while encouraging students to develop their own small projects, providing a comprehensive learning experience that combines theory with practical implementation.
Use of AI
AI is already transforming education with tools that make learning and teaching easier and more fun. Students can use AI-powered apps, like adaptive math programs, that adjust to their skill level, or virtual tutors that help with homework anytime. Teachers save hours with AI tools that grade assignments, create personalized quizzes, or analyze student progress to tailor lessons. Parents can stay involved with AI dashboards that show their child’s strengths and areas for improvement. From language translation for inclusive classrooms to study aids that make science exciting, using AI in schools helps everyone work smarter, learn better, and stay connected.
Financial Literacy Mini game
We recently launched an educational mini-game focused on teaching children about financial literacy, with a special emphasis on understanding credit responsibly. The game simulates real-world credit scenarios in a kid-friendly environment, helping young learners grasp concepts like credit scores, interest rates, and responsible borrowing. Initial feedback from our pilot sessions has been encouraging – children engage well with the interactive elements while absorbing important financial concepts. The game demonstrates how gamification can make complex financial topics more accessible and enjoyable for young learners. Check out the game here: Mini Financial Literacy Game
Training for Educators to implement AI in Education
We have conducted comprehensive AI training workshops for educators, teaching them to effectively utilize various AI tools in education, including text generation, image creation, video production, audio synthesis, and the transformation of educational materials into engaging slides and videos. Educators have shown great enthusiasm in exploring AI’s potential to enhance their work and improve educational outcomes. Our program provides participants with foundational AI knowledge while offering opportunities to serve as mentors, allowing them to actively apply their learning and support students. This unique dual role as both learners and mentors has proven highly effective, creating a rich collaborative learning environment that benefits both educators and students. We’ve successfully implemented this program across several institutions, including St. Francis Xavier’s School, T.W.G.Hs. Wong Fung Ling College, HKMA David Li Kwok Po College, and HKFYG Lee Shau Kee Primary School.

Creation of AI
Creating AI is about building your own smart tools, and it’s easier than you think! Students can start with fun projects like coding a chatbot to answer questions or training an AI to recognize pictures, using platforms like Scratch or Google’s Teachable Machine. Teachers can guide these projects with ready-made lesson plans, turning classrooms into mini tech labs. Parents can encourage kids to experiment at home, sparking creativity and problem-solving. By creating AI, students gain hands-on skills, teachers inspire innovation, and parents see their children take the first steps toward inventing the future, all while learning how technology works from the inside out.
Funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club AI Community Innovation Programme is a 2.5-year hands-on education programme (From Oct 2021 – Mar 2024)
AI x Design Thinking (Challenge Day)
Challenge Day provides students with an opportunity to apply their AI knowledge to solve real-world problems. In the first year, we organized four Challenge Days with themes such as creating an elderly-friendly community, making shopping malls accessible for the blind, developing green campuses, and promoting community sports. These activities help students build empathy and assess the practical application of their ideas and knowledge.
Ching Chung Secondary School
Parent-child Storytelling Workshop
With the development of generative AI, it can serve as a powerful tool to unleash kids’ creativity and imagination. To ensure we stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI, we have created a comprehensive new curriculum specifically designed for parent-child workshops. This curriculum not only introduces foundational AI concepts but also incorporates hands-on activities that facilitate learning through experience. Given the low entry barrier of generative AI, parents can actively participate alongside their children, fostering a collaborative learning environment that benefits both generations. This approach helps demystify AI technologies and encourages family engagement in educational pursuits, making the learning process both enjoyable and effective.
The Future Job Market in the AI Era
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries and transform the way we work, career planning must evolve significantly to prepare students for the exciting opportunities emerging in this new landscape. The rapid advancement of AI technology requires a strategic approach to career development, with several crucial areas demanding our attention:
- AI-Influenced Job Market
- Unprecedented growth in cutting-edge fields like AI development, data science, machine learning engineering, and advanced robotics, creating numerous high-value career opportunities.
- Substantial evolution of traditional professional roles across sectors, with healthcare professionals incorporating AI diagnostics, marketers leveraging predictive analytics, and educators utilizing adaptive learning systems.
